Likes soil to be well drained. Remove the flower stems after blooms fade. 
This will encourage more flowers to set on. In winter, cut off foliage at the base or tie the leaves together at the top.  This will prevent water from entering the plants crown, which will cause rot. Cover the plants with a thick layer of mulch.Remove the mulch in spring and trim the leaves. Water well.
